Who Are We

History of the Choir's creation

„The New Bana Choir" is a professional choral ensemble founded in 2022 in Tbilisi. The creation of the ensemble is associated with the New Bana Monastery Complex in Khashuri and was carried out with the blessing of the Archbishop of Surami and Khashuri Diocese, Bishop Simeon. The director of the choir is Lasha Gelashvili, and the musical director is Shato Kubatashvili. Under their professional guidance, the ensemble conducts active musical activities and aims to research, perform and popularize Georgian choral art, especially traditional polyphonic music, including hymns and folklore. The “New Bana Choir” participates in both cultural and church events and festivals. Its repertoire includes both church and Georgian folk music, performed with high quality and care. The ensemble's activities are based on the revival and dignified presentation of Georgian musical heritage, which gives it a special place in the modern choral space.
